Brigadier General James J. David

Brigadier General James J. David was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Army on 5 June 1965 after completing the Reserve Officer's Training Corp (ROTC) upon his graduation from La Salle University , Philadelphia , Pennsylvania.  After attending his Air Defense Artillery Officer's Basic Course at Ft. Bliss , Texas , he was assigned as a tactical director of the 3rd Missile Battalion, 68th Artillery, Snelling Army Air Defense Site, Minnesota .  After an 18 month tour General David accepted command of a Nike Hercules Nuclear Warhead Detachment with the 37th USA Artillery Detachment, United States Army Europe (USAREUR) in Greece .  He later became the Group Adjutant with the 558th USA Artillery Group, Elevsis , Greece .

After serving his European assignment in Greece that included TDY tours in the Middle East, General David was assigned to the Republic of Vietnam serving as Company Commander with the 101st Airborne Division.  He served in Vietnam from 9 January 1969 until 26 February 1970.

After his tour in Vietnam , General David attended his Air Defense Artillery Officer's Advance Course, Ft. Bliss Texas and later assigned as Section Leader of the Army Air Defense Command Post, 40th Artillery Brigade, Presidio of California.  This assignment lasted nearly 2 years, and on 7 October 1972 General David was reassigned to United States Army in Europe as Battery Commander, 6th Battalion, 56th Air Defense Artillery, Spangdahlem , Germany .  In this assignment General David commanded a Chaparral-Vulcan Air Defense Artillery battery and received one of Europe's highest awards for missile battery proficiency when his missile battery scored a perfect score in its annual service practice on the Island of Crete .

After his active duty tours, General David commanded the 429th, and the 434th Chemical Detachments in Chamblee , Georgia , United States Army Reserves.  The 434th Chemical Detachment received unit honors when it was later mobilized and served in the first Gulf war. On September 1983, General David took command of the 122nd Rear Area Operations Center , Georgia Army National Guard, and served as commander for nearly 4 years.  His unit was capstoned to 7th Corps in Stuttgart, Germany and shortly after relinquishing command the 122nd RAOC was ultimately mobilized to serve in both Gulf wars.  After being promoted to Colonel in both the National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves, General David assumed the duties with the State Comptrollers Office.  Upon his retirement from the National Guard, he was reassigned to the Retired Army Reserves.  And on 5 December 1989 he was appointed as Brigadier General on the State Retired List of the National Guard of Georgia.

General David's military education included his Air Defense Artillery Officer's Basic Course and his Officer's Advanced Course which he attended at Ft. Bliss , Texas .  In addition, General David completed the Field Artillery Branch qualification course, FT. Sill , Oklahoma . He also attended and successfully completed the United States Army Command and General Staff College, graduating with honors.  And in February 1988 General David attended and completed the National Security Course of the National Defense University, Washington D.C.

His decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Medal with Overseas Ribbon and bar, the Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Bronze Star Medal awarded for his meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces in the Republic of Vietnam .

General David is second generation Lebanese heritage with grandparents on both sides born in Lebanon and eventually
immigrating to the United States. .
