         U.S. Army- WWI Veteran

A perspective by Constantine's Niece Hadel Ma'ayeh, who is also an APAAM Member.

Concerning my Uncle Constantine, I have a photo before he passed on in the early 70's in Gate City, Virginia I will look for it and send it.

My Uncle had a stroke in his last years so I barely knew much about him. What I gathered are from memories from his funeral and from my mother.

My Uncle was born in Madaba, Jordan either late 1800's or early 1900's. He went to America in his late teens before WWI. He left behind my Aunt Katherina (also a Maayeh, my Grandfather's sister) and their two children (one girl and one boy who both died later from the measles) in Madaba, Jordan. He entered the U.S. Army and served under both wars with honors. When first arriving in American he lived in Detroit, Michigan and then went to stay with my Uncle Chris in Gate City, Virginia. He never returned to Jordan or saw my Aunt Katherina again (Aunt Katherina came to America in the 50's and then returned back to Jordan without my Uncle). I wish I can check the archives in Gate City or speak to my cousins, but most of my memories is with him as a child and then his funeral (41 gun salute). His full name is Constantine Othella Ma'ayeh (translated the name from Arabic). FYI: Ma'ayeh is spelled many ways by my relatives in the U.S. so I am not sure how he spelled it.
